Summary

Driven by the need to replace obsolete weapon systems in their arsenals as well as rising geopolitical tensions in the region, countries in Southeast Asia are currently seeking to modernise their armed forces. Ideally, this trend will provide a unique opportunity for countries in the region to jointly develop their defence industry through various programmes, including joint research and development, production, and maintenance, service, and overhaul (MRO). Nevertheless, there are a number of challenges to materialise this idea.
