Dusk Till Dawn: Designing Indonesia’s Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA)
Summary
Geopolitical and geostrategic uncertainties have threatened stability at the regional and global levels in recent years. For example, the formation of the AUKUS (Australia, United Kingdom, United States) and QUAD (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) alliances, and China’s assertive presence in the northern seas of Natuna, causing an escalation of tensions with ASEAN members.
Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) is a country’s ability to understand the overall condition of its waters in order to anticipate threats to the security, safety and welfare of coastal communities. As the largest archipelago in the world, Indonesia’s territory is strategic as a crossroads for world trade by sea. Thus, MDA is very important to secure the region.
