Indonesia and the Global Pandemic Fund

Summary

During the first Joint Finance and Health Ministers’ Meeting (JFHMM) held on June 20-21, G20 member states agreed to establish the Global Pandemic Fund in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic and driven by the awareness of the urgent need for a global financial mechanism to deal with future pandemics. The plan is under the trusteeship of the World Bank and technical guidances of the World Health Organisation (WHO). It is intended to ‘support’ pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, including strengthening disease surveillance, health workers, laboratory systems and community engagement. However, despite numerous promises of commitment, the plan might not achieve its objectives.
