The Expanding Ambitions of Indonesia’s Naval Defence Industry

Summary

In a recent article published by The Jakarta Post, our head of defence and research coordinator, Anastasia Febiola S., as well as the co-president of the Center for Strategic Studies of the Indo-Pacific (CESIP), Hugo Vojetta, highlighted the signature of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) by Indonesian state-owned defence companies, including PT PAL Indonesia, during Indo Defence Expo and Forums. While it displays the expanding willingness of the domestic naval industry to compete on the regional and global scene, it is also essential for the Indonesian national shipyard to implement priority scales and to maximise the potential of countertrade, local component and offset value (CTLCO) in the form of transfer of technology (ToT).
