On February 10, Naval group and PT PAL Indonesia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), an important moment during the visit of the French Minister of the Armed Forces, Florence Parly, in Indonesia. Alman Helvas Ali argued in his latest Op-Ed for CNBC Indonesia that the signing of the MoU has a very strategic significance, especially for France amid the Indo-Pacific race. In this article, Alman explained how the MoU will provide opportunities and also represent challenges for Indonesia, while the Minister of Defence, Prabowo Subianto, announced the country’s intention to acquire two French-made submarines.
