In an article signed by Deborah Cassrels for the Market Herald, our Lead Analyst for Maritime Security and Counterterrorism, Andi Raihanah Ashar, argued that the number of terrorist arrests in Indonesia does not reflect the effectiveness of counter-terrorism efforts done by the government. She also mentioned the numerous loopholes in the efforts to tackle the threat, as seen in the attack perpetrated by Agus Sujatno – a former inmate who refused to participate to the deradicalisation programme. In addition, Miss Ashar revealed that since 2017, no less than 700 foreign terrorist fighters originating from Southeast Asia were Indonesian.
