Outward-Looking Strategy: Key to Post-MEF Naval Posture

Summary

Given its geographical location and evolving security environment in the Indo-Pacific Region, a shift towards a more outward-looking defence strategy and comprehensive naval modernisation programmes is imperative for Indonesia. Unfortunately, much like for the two other services, the effort to upgrade the Indonesian Navy’s (TNI AL) posture has encountered various difficulties. Nevertheless, TNI AL has set a target to become a blue water navy by 2045.
