Russia’s War on Ukraine: Lessons for the Indonesian Armed Forces

Summary

In a recent article published by The Diplomat, our research analyst, Muhammad Fauzan Malutfi, highlighted that the high intensity of the Russia-Ukraine War, which has been ongoing for a year, posed new challenges to Indonesia’s defence development. With many countries supplying Ukraine with ammunition and weapons systems, there are concerns over production shortages on the international market. This situation is worrying as it is hampering the Indonesian government Minimum Essential Forces (MEF) plan and by extension the modernisation of Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Hence, the government needs to address this issue to make sure that its modernisation plan will not be delayed again while it needs to assess the capacities of its suppliers to guarantee that such modernisation will not be hampered in the near future.
