An Urgent Need for Indonesian Armed Forces Modernisation

Summary

According to a recent Presidential Regulation (Perpres) draft, the Ministry of Defence has required Rp1.7 quadrillion or approximately US$125 billion to pursue the modernization of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (#TNI) until 2044. The amount of budget has led to debate from experts, observers and members of the civil society. The main question could be the rationale behind this need for budget, while a long-term modernisation plan could make sense.
