Archipelago MonitorSummary
This 61st edition of Archipelago Monitor dealt with the announcement of the ratification of the Capital City Law that would lead to the relocation of the Indonesian capital from DKI Jakarta to East Kalimantan. Opposition to the plan has been vivid, with some accusing the government of not focusing on more important matters such as economic, security, and environmental issues.
We also examined the latest developments of three strategic cooperation agreements between Singapore and Indonesia, such as the extradition treaty, the Flight Information Region (FIR) engagement, and extended defence cooperation. Lastly, we discussed human rights violations involving the Regent of Langkat, Terbit Rencana Peranginangin.
